Following a request from a teacher, I have almost finished creating another free resource.

The resource is called Fun|Nums and requires students to work together in teams to create three digit numbers. The team which is able to create a number (by rolling dice) which best fits the challenge allocated at the start of each turn wins points.

The teacher who requested the resource has kindly written a blog post for me in which he does a much better job of explaining the idea than I just have done – I will add this post to the site soon.

As this resource is quite subject-specific, my thoughts at the moment are to keep it separate from the main app and to make it available as a ‘standalone’ resource.

I may even make it available via my newsletter as a ‘thank you’ to all of the teachers who have signed-up so far.

Any thoughts or feedback will – as ever – be very much appreciated.

If you haven’t signed up to the newsletter and would like to then please click the button below:

And, as a preview of the new resource, a couple of screenshots:

With the kind help and feedback of Kristian Still (@KristianStill | Blog) and his students ...

With the kind help and feedback of Kristian Still (@KristianStill | Blog) and his students (Molly, Grace, Shawn and others), I have been working on a new resource.

The resource is called ‘Think Link’ and the idea is that students arrange hexagons in order to uncover links between (depending on your subject) words, numbers, characters, themes, artists, philosophies, historical events, people, chemicals – well, whatever you like!

As with all of the resources I create, I have tried to make it easy for teachers to create their own activities to suit their own subject and the age/ability range of their students.

You can also save activities to use again in the future or to share with colleagues.

Moreover, as you can colour-code and add notes to each hexagon, saved activities can also be shared with students as an interactive revision guide to a subject or topic.

I hope to add the resource to the app very soon and would appreciate any feedback that you have – you can contact me using the contact form on this site.

I have added some screenshots from the resource beneath this post – click the thumbnail to view the full image.

Thanks again to Kristian and his students – you can read some of their feedback here: Student Feedback – their ideas and encouragement were really helpful in the creation of this resource.

Thank you, David.

Since adding the ‘Card Board’ resource to the app, I have had lots of emails from teachers asking if I would update the resource to allow them to type on both sides of each card.

This is a great idea – but rather than changing the ‘Card Board’ resource, I thought it might be nice to create a brand-new resource for this purpose.

So, I have been working on a resource which – at the moment – is called ‘Flip Cards’.

The video below shows my progress so far.

Any feedback or ideas at this early stage would be very much appreciated.

Thanks as ever to everybody who takes the time to contact me with feedback – and thanks also to the people who mention my efforts on their sites, blogs or on social media.

The app has been downloaded 7,656 times in the last month alone – and so thanks to everybody for spreading the word and for sharing my work with colleagues,

David.

If you have been reading the blog recently, you will know that I am currently working on a resource for English teachers called ‘Page Turner’.

You can find out more about this resource HERE.

One of the key features of the resource is that it will select pages at random for each group. The selector I made turned out quite nice – and so I thought it might be an idea to make it available as a resource in its own right. And so…

There are already selectors on the app, but another one will give a bit of variety.

It is also the first ‘button-less’ resource I have ever made:

Double-click anywhere on the selector to load a list (which you can create using the ‘List Editor’)

A single-click anywhere on the selector bar will make a random selection

Clicking outside of the selector bar will change the colour-scheme

The video below will hopefully give a quick overview of how everything works.

I might also tweak this resource further to create a very simple ‘random number generator’ – is this something that could possibly be useful?

As ever, all feedback appreciated.

It would be great to finish the ‘Page Turner’ resource too – if any English teachers have any ideas for activities that they would like to add to the resource then please contact me.

Thanks,

Just a quick update of the resource I am working on for teachers of literature.

The idea is that students work in groups to complete randomly allocated tasks using a randomly allocated page from the novel they are studying.

Each group would then feed their ideas back to the class for further discussion.

As well as being used to teach or revise a novel, the resource can allocate tasks relating to a line from a poem or play.

It would be great to build up a bank of tasks before adding this resource to the app.

If you are an English teacher, then please feel free to send me any ideas you may have for tasks relating to poetry, prose, drama or even non-fiction.

Thank you,

Hello,

I have quite a few ‘work in progress’ resources and I am going to try to finish some of them and add them to app.

My subject is English – and so I thought it might be nice to add some resources to the app specifically for the teaching of prose, poetry and drama.

One idea I have been working on is ‘Page Turner’.

It is a very simple resource and I think it could be useful as a starter or plenary activity – or perhaps as part of a revision session… or even for a reading group.

The idea is that the teacher decides which section of the novel, poem or play they would like to focus on. So, in a novel, this could be pages 35 to 60.

The resource will then allocate a task and also a page number for each of the teams. The teams would have a couple of minutes to complete their task and then feed their ideas back to the class for further discussion.

There is no ‘competitive’ aspect to the resource as yet – but perhaps I could add a feature whereby the teacher could allocate points based on the response and the discussion generated?

As ever, all feedback will be very much appreciated.

Also, it would be great if teachers could suggest tasks to fill the ‘library’ – we would need tasks for novels, tasks for poems and tasks for drama.

Thanks,

I am really pleased that this seems to have been a popular addition to the app.

I do think it could be improved though… and I am looking at ways in which it could be possible to add images to some or all of the cards you create.

I will report my progress via the blog – and have included a screenshot below of my work so far – and would appreciate any feedback that people have about this possible new addition.

Do you think it would be a useful feature?

Thanks again to everybody who writes to me with feedback – and of course to the people who share my ideas via their own websites and Twitter.

Your support is very much appreciated,

Here is the second of the resources that I have added to the app this evening: Card Board!

The idea is that teachers and students can create their own packs of cards and then place them on the screen to be randomly selected.

There is no limit to the number of cards that can be in a pack – you could have thousands of cards and, as with all of the resources I create, each pack can be saved for future use or shared with colleagues.

The first is another simple timer in the style of an hourglass.

Simply select the number of minutes you would like to count down from and then press ‘Start Timer’.

As ever, all feedback is very much appreciated.

You can read a selection of the feedback I have received recently on the ‘Feedback Page‘.

Thank you to everybody who has taken the time to contact me.
