NEW RESOURCE! Image Spotlight

I received an email yesterday from a teacher in Korea – here is what it said:

Hi, my name is Thaddeus and I have used many of your excellent interactive tools in my EFL classes in Korea.

My co-teacher asked me today if I knew of a tool that resembles a flashlight in complete darkness, revealing a small area of an image at a time.  Her idea is to review vocabulary by having students guess the word through limited visual clues.  She says that she has used a tool like this before, but there were only a limit number of options for background images.  I think the idea she is imagining is being able to upload or link to an image to serve as the background.  So, I have searched far and wide and have consulted members at the EFL Classroom 2.0, and was advised to contact you.

Again, I am grateful for your providing these tools so freely.  Even students at the very beginning stages of acquiring English language proficiency at my school can say things like, “Word Mix”, “Word Magnets”, and “Find Ten”.

I have had a go at creating such a resource and have uploaded an early version for people to try.

As with all of the resources on the site, any feedback or ideas for improvement will be appreciated.

Thanks to Thaddeus for the idea – I hope that this new resource is helpful for teachers,

David

So cool! I’m a member of EFL Classroom 2.0, and I am touched by your generosity, and wowed by how quickly you turned this out and how lovely it is!

One thing I found myself wanting to do was to go back and spotlight/reveal my picture again- just for fun, I guess : )

It works so smoothly, David… impressive.

Thanks Ellen – I am pleased that you like the resource…

Hopefully teachers will be able to think of many inventive ways to make use of this resource.

Thank you for taking the time to comment,

David

Awesome resource David !…..a quick suggestion.

As a foreign language teacher, I often put up pics of various people, celbrities, professions, etc. and have students guess who they are….

What would be neat would be for the picture to be covered by a number of squares, 4, 8, 16, 32….when the student gets a question correct, he/she can remove ONE of the blocks covering the picture….is this possible to create ?

That’s a good idea Glenn – I am very busy at the moment but I will see if I can create and upload something to the site for you soon.

Thanks for posting your comments,

David
