Dice | Numbers and Questions

What does the resource do?

Click anywhere on the screen to roll the dice.

Nothing more to add about this resource! A very simple resource, requested by a teacher via email, which will hopefully be of use to people.

Any feedback or ideas for how this resource could be developed will be appreciated,

David

I like the look of the Dice resource David. Could it have sound? Could it also have a button to choose to track the rolls with maybe talley marks? Could I choose how many dice I wanted? Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback Eric – I will work on the resource and see if I can put some of your suggestions in place,

Could the dice be different colors? One green, one red for example?

Thanks for your feedback Mrs B,

The change you suggested has now been made.

Hope it helps,

I like these dice. Is there a way to prevent the dice, words or numbers, from falling off the tray? It would be nice to track the results – especially if I’m doing a lesson on probability.

Thanks for sharing this!

Thanks Nathan,

I will see what I can do and will hopefully have an updated version of the resource on the site soon.

In the short term, here is a spinner that might be useful in a probability lesson: http://www.triptico.co.uk/?p=37#more-37

Thanks for your comments,

very good!
Is their a methodof making the dice roll by another method than clicking the mouse?- e.g. space bar

The question dice idea is great. For Geography I would make more use of just one dice with why, where, who, how, when, what.

Thanks for the feedback…

Judy Valentine: I will try to add the space bar method of rolling the dice later today.

Karen Mulvey: A single question version has now been added – I’ve also tried to give the cube in this version a bit more ’spin’… let me know if it is too much. The resource works differently on different computers – possibly depending on the speed with which the computer can process the 3D graphics.

Hope this helps, David.

I wonder if there would be a way to add our own questions to the dice? For instance, things like asking about Main Idea, Compare/Contrast, Cause & Effect, etc.

Thank you – I love your resources!

Hello Karen,

Thanks for posting – I am pleased that you like the resources. I will try to update the resource to allow teachers to customise the dice. In the shorter term, if you want to send me a list of 6 or 12 words (depending on the number of dice you’d like) I will create and upload a new resource to the site.

Hope this helps – thanks again for your feedback, David

This resource works in a similar way to the dice and is easy to customise: http://www.triptico.co.uk/?p=532#more-532

Hope it’s helpful – all feedback appreciated,

David

This is a great resource because it is so much fun to see it roll off the side. We use this resource during our review game in class!

My students loved using the dice, but it seemed to select ‘where’more times that any other and ‘why’ never came up. However, I’m sure it is set to be quite random… Is there a trick on where to click so the die doesn’t spin out of sight and not land in the tray?

posted by Neville Borger on 05.31.10 at 9:20 am

Hello Neville – thank you for your comments and I am pleased that your students enjoy using the dice.

There is no trick as to where to click and I agree that sometimes the dice do behave in a very erratic manner! If you wanted to use a similar activity which was truly random and a little less ‘volatile’, you could set up the ‘Double Spinner’ with the type of questioning words used on the dice: Link to Double Spinner.

I hope this helps,

David

I love using your resources in my Spanish class, and was thinking that foreign language teachers would have more use for this resource if we could choose the number of dice and the labels to go on each dice. What a great addition to my class resources, and the kids LOVE to play the games!!! Gracias!!!

That’s a good idea Janet and it is something I will investigate.

The idea you describe above, whilst not possible with the dice, would work well with the ’spinner’ resources on the site. For example: Triptico’s Double Spinner.

Hope that helps – and for posting your comments and feedback on the site… Gracias!!!
