What does the resource do?
LinkUp is a resource which requires students to link words to categories. The resource works particularly well on an interactive whiteboard as the links can be dragged around the screen.
I have also added a feature which allows teachers to save the activities they create. Any feedback about this would be appreciated – hopefully you will find it to be a simple and safe method which also allows you to share your activities with fellow teachers.
How does it work?
Each game requires two categories, each with six linked words. Once you have created a game, you can save the information for future use and share it with others.
The aim is to drag links from the categories to the words. When each word has been linked, you can check how many of your links are correct.
How can I use it?
This sorting activity is easy to adapt and customise. Hopefully this will allow it to be of use to many teachers in many different subjects. The ability to save and share activities will hopefully be popular with teachers too.
As ever, all feedback will be appreciated. You can post comments or use the contact form on this website to write to us.
Comments
Hola,
Gracias.
Thanks for your comments.
I think you are suggesting that the resource would be improved if it allowed the use of non-English letters. This is something I have done with many of the other resources and it is something I should have done with this resource too.
I will update the resource soon and hopefully people all over the world will be able to use it in many different languages.
Thanks again for visiting our site and for posting your feedback,
David
UPDATE: A new, mulitlingual version of the resource has now been uploaded.
Hope this helps,
David
Thanks! Muchas gracias!
Hi and thanks for this great tool
It’s really useful.
It would be wonderful if the tool could mark the mistakes with a sound or a blinking visual sign, e.g. a word typed in the yellow list dragged into the wrong purple category.
Thanks Anna,
I am pleased that you are finding the resource to be useful. I will take your comments into consideration when I update the resource. The problem I can see with immediately showing people which answers are incorrect is that you would no longer need the ‘Check Answers’ button (as you’d already know which were correct/incorrect).
Thanks again for your comments,
David
A great resource but would like to see sentences or phrases go into the box fields as well to discuss more complex ideas.

This is truly cool! Would it be possible to make this work like a Venn diagram with the possibility that one word could fit both categories? That would allow more than one connection (link) to be made on any given word. Thanks!
Hello Paul,
I am pleased that you like the resource.
I like your idea of allowing links to both categories. I will try to make some time to work on this and update the resource.
Thanks for your feedback – much appreciated, David.
Great resource for our Promethean Boards. You can create this in a Flipchart but why, if you guys already have it set up! The easier it is for our teachers, the more often they will use it. Suggestion: Ability to add images
Thanks Manuel – I am pleased that you are finding the resource to be helpful.
Thanks for your suggestion too – the ability to add images is something I will try to make time to work on. In the shorter term, the Image Match resource may be a good alternative: http://www.triptico.co.uk/?p=143
Thanks again for your comments, David
I like this tool. Thanks for creating it! I wonder if you can make space for us to type more letters. I wanted to type “Positive Connotation” as a category, but couldn’t.
Is it possible to save games in their complete form? Or do I need to upload the vocabulary each time?
Thanks.
Hello Trudy,
When you see the data you have entered displayed as a line of text separated by commas, copy the text and paste it into a text file (e.g. Microsoft Word).
You can then copy and paste activities back from your text file to the resource in the future. You could have hundreds of activities saved on a single text file and it will also be easy to share activities with colleagues if required.
I hope that this answers your question,
David
