You could label the Eight Label Spinner with the following:

  • Blends – have the students come up with words that start with the blend that the spinner lands on
  • Upper case and lower case letters – come up with proper nouns or words that start with the letter that the spinner lands on – take it further by having them use that word in a sentence
  • Word families – student has to come up with a word from the word family that the spinner lands on
  • Reading comprehension – what is the main idea, who is the main character, similarities and differences, what background did you bring to the story, what questions do you have about the story, can you give the story a new title, what do the pictures on the cover tell about the story, how does the story end etc.

Hi David, I just tried it with money i.e., .26, .58, .96 etc. Money under a dollar…it doesn’t have to be but that is what I tried. Question(s) for students: how do you say the number that the spinner lands on i.e., .26 = twenty six cents and what coins do you need to make .26 cents (2 dimes, nickel and a penny)….can you think of any other ways to make .26….I think that this is really fun and has loads of potential. Thank you so much for creating these wonderful resources

Is there any way to save a spinner? I’m interested in using it for weekly group rewards. I’ll list 8 rewards, and at the end of the week the winning group spins the spinner to see what their reward will be. I don’t want to have to keep recreating it every week. Is there a way to save it?

    Hello Alex,

Thanks for commenting – at present, there is no way to save this particular spinner.

You could perhaps make the spinner early in the day and then minimise the window. When you wanted to use the spinner, you could maximise the window. Not a perfect solution I accept, but hopefully it will help.
